Colca Canyon - Arequipa

Feel the magic of the Andes! Watch the majestic condor soar over one of the deepest canyons in the world, stroll through colonial villages full of tradition, relax in the Chivay hot springs and spot vicuñas roaming free. An epic day you will remember forever.

Trip Overview

A journey into the heart of the Arequipa Andes. We leave Arequipa at 3:00 a.m. for Chivay, where we have breakfast before reaching the Cruz del Cóndor Viewpoint, the best spot to watch the condors fly and enjoy a panoramic view of the canyon, up to 2,700 m deep. On the way back we stop at the Antahuilque Viewpoint and the villages of Maca and Yanque, with its monumental Baroque church. In Chivay we enjoy a buffet lunch, with an optional visit to the hot springs. We return with stops at Patapampa, the Andes Viewpoint, and the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, home of the vicuña. Arrival in Arequipa at 5:00 p.m.

Pickup & departure

Hotel pickup and departure from Arequipa (2,325 m a.s.l.) to Chivay, approx. 3 h 30 min drive.

Breakfast in Chivay

Breakfast in Chivay (3,600 m a.s.l.), then a further 2-hour drive to the Cruz del Cóndor Viewpoint.

Cruz del Cóndor Viewpoint

Watch the condors soar over the canyon, which is 1,250 m deep down to the river (up to 2,700 m measured from Mount Bomboya). Approx. 1 h 15 min stop.

Antahuilque, Maca & Yanque

Stop at the Antahuilque Viewpoint and the villages of Maca and Yanque, where we visit a Baroque church.

Chivay & hot springs

Arrival in Chivay, optional visit to the hot springs and buffet lunch. Return to Arequipa with stops at Patapampa (Andes Viewpoint) and the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, home to camelids such as the vicuña.
